With summer almost here,  I'm finding myself drawn to white in everything. Flirty eyelet dresses, scalloped silk tops, oversized blazers with a touch of glitter, and white ceramics in the kitchen...

simplicity is underrated

Wouldn't you agree? This website was passed along by a friend and I'm all of a sudden lusting after balls of twine and canning jars. You just can't argue with good design ...

boxy tops.

I did a little spring shopping this weekend, and after doing the standard perusal of everything I had purchased, realized I'm having a major thing for boxy tops. They feel tailored and sophisticated without being stuffy - plus you all you have to do is throw one on and you look put together for whatever the day holds!

The first two tops are from Madewell and were the perfect pick me up, get ready for spring, and get your nautical on purchases for the dreary weekend that we had here in SF.  The second two will only be coveted due to their price tag, BUT I did pick up this number from Zara that fits the vibe of number four!

apartment: living room

INSPIRATION: cozy, graphic, and sophisticated

 THE REAL DEAL:

I'm not sure I can get away with calling this nook a "living room," but for the sake of inspiration it's allowed, right?  Just like the rest of the apartment it is still a work in progress, BUT I did make a recent update (even since I took some of the first images!) and purchased the couch in the last photo.  It is not at all what I was going for (see inspiration), but I stumbled upon it at the sample sale and couldn't pass it up.  The light grey color and sleek profile make it the perfect blank canvas for some graphic, colorful throw pillows that will jazz it up just enough. 

Currently an old chest serves as my coffee table (and extra storage!), but ultimately I would prefer a simpler profile so that it doesn't look like one big square in front of another. 

If you know me at all (or if you read this post), you know that I'm obsessed with having a bar cart, but unfortunately, there really isn't a place for any more furniture in this apartment.  I've decided to put the side table (seen in the first image) on the wall to right of the couch and make it a version of a bar cart similar to the one in the first image of the inspiration!  I would love to hang a round mirror above it as well. 

And last but not least, I would do anything to change out that light fixture. Preferably to a chandelier...a girl can dream...

apartment: the kitchen

INSPIRATION: chalk, french meets industrial, pop of color

THE REAL DEAL: 

I've been wanting to post pictures of my studio for a while now, but kept thinking I should wait until it was "done." And then I realized it will never be done...So instead I'll be taking a different approach and showing the work in progress that it is, and what I hope it will someday be! 

I wanted more of an industrial vibe in the kitchen since the rest of the space is very feminine.  The thick wood table with metal legs was the perfect find (Alameda!) and serves its kitchen table purpose perfectly...it also doubles as a great serving space or prep area which is important in a small space.  I love the idea of painting the legs a fun color like the hot pink shown in the inspiration.

The overall space gets great light but also makes the white wall a little too intense for my liking, so I'd love to turn it into a chalkboard surface.  If I could have my way, I would also hang one of those great pendant lights above the table!
